All Mississippi Registered Foresters' Licenses expire December 31,in odd years.

CONTINUING FORESTRY EDUCATION (CFE)REQUIREMENTS:
The total of Categories A & B must equal sixteen (16)hours with, at least, six in Category A of which one must be in Ethics.

CATEGORY A: Minimum Hours - Six (6)
Description: Professionally organized course-work,seminars,short courses, workshops, and technical sessions which may enhance a forester's professional development.

Sessions Which qualify for Category A:

(1) Any session qualifying for category one of the Society of American Forester's CFE program.

(2) Programs with forestry content presented at meetings of forestry organizations such as the Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA),County Forestry Associations, Society of American Foresters (SAF),American Pulpwood Association (APA),etc.(Attending business meetings, qualify for Category B)

(3)Forestry training sessions presented by employers. (Routine business meetings, first aid, CPR, driver education,etc. are not included)

(4)One (1) hour credit is required every renewal period in Ethics.

(5)Forestry courses taught by forestry extension and forestry colleges or universities.

(6) Video,CD and correspondent classes may be excepted for credit if an examination is given and recorded and participant receives a certificate of completion.

(7)Other training sessions which will enhance professional development if preapproved by the Board.

Credit Hours: One hour for each contact hour of course-work,three hours of tour or field sessions equal one contact hour.

CATEGORY B:

Description: Participation in forestry-related meetings or committees, holding elected or appointed office in forestry organizations. Preparing and publishing forestry publications or other job enhancing activites.

It is recommended if in doubt whether a course qualifys or if questioning number of credit hours contact BORF office borf@cfr.mssate.edu for prior approval. The CFE Committe will need: Agenda with topic, times with breaks, instructors, contact people and telephone numbers,etc.


There are two options to met the Ethics requirement.

1. Attend an Ethics Presentation in person. Presentations will be offered around the state.

The EXEMPTIONS to CFE requirements are:

1. Anyone 65 years or older

2. Full-time college students

3. Those in active duty in the military

4. Anyone granted a new license since the last renewal

5. Anyone approved by the Board (suffering sickness or hardship)

Note: A Renewal Form must be completed and fee paid.


How do I find courses to meet my required 16 hours?

Courses are offered by:

MSU Division of Continuing Education.

MSU Foresty Extension

Professional Study Groups

Professional Forestry Annual Meetings (SAF,MFA,etc.)

How do I get a program or course pre-authoirized for CFE credit hours?

Ask the Sponsor of the program or course.

Call or e-mail the BORF office for instructions.

How will enforcement of the Board's CFE requirements be handled?

Registered Foresters are required to conduct themselves in an ethical manner as provided by the canons issued by the Board (See Code of Ethics).

Fraudulent activity in reporting CFE participation to the Board will be a violation of these canons and may result in a fines or the revocation of licenses.

Registered Foresters should make certain that proof exists of their participation, such as certificates,inclusion on meeting registration lists,etc.

When asked for documentation, the burden of furnishing proof of compliance shall rest with the Registered Forester.
