Job Description:

Full-time position - Responsible for providing forest management services on property located in Georgia. Minimum of 45 hours per week required, vehicle provided, out-of-town and overnight work may be required (expenses paid).

Responsibilities and Job Requirements:

  • All aspects of field work, office work, analysis, and reporting to landowner/client.
  • Assists in managing all aspects of logging operations including harvest set up, harvest inspections and merchandising trees into various forest products.
  • Assists in planning, negotiations, administration, and inspection of other forestry-related activities such as road construction and maintenance, timber marking, boundary establishment, and other land management projects as assigned.
  • Assists in development and administering budgets.
  • Monitors BMP and EMS Compliance to ensure 3rd Party SFI Certification.
  • Uses Geographic Information System (GIS) to assist in managing TIMO lands.
  • Participates in forest inventory projects individually or with a team.
  • Generate new business (meet with potential clients, explain our business, etc.)
  • Create management plans that capture landowner objectives and offer solutions to achieve those goals.
  • Perform all aspects of timber sale development, including timber inventory, boundary establishment, preparing timber sale bid notices, marketing, and reviewing timber sale contracts.
  • Prepare and negotiate contracts with independent contractors for clients’ management services.
  • Supervise contracted services, including certifying completion of work for payment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Highly proficient with MS Word, Excel, and GIS software.
  • Ability to use GPS and hand-held data recorders.
  • Has current Registered Forester’s license or ability to become a Registered Forester within 1 year.
  • Required travel and ability to function as a team member on large projects throughout the U.S.

The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter) seeks applicants for an Assistant/Associate Extension Agent position for natural resources of Northwest Louisiana. The agent’s office will be located in the Bossier Parish extension office in Benton, LA. The population of Bossier Parish is approximately 125,000.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Outreach will utilize newsletters, mass media, and social media to promote educational programs, and conducting workshops/production meetings (multiple locations in targeted area). The incumbent will work cooperatively with agents conducting multi-parish programs that meet the needs of clientele by selecting, maintaining and working with an advisory committee for programs and following an annual plan of work. Involvement with agricultural/natural resource associations, such as Farm Bureau, Louisiana Forestry Association, state and federal forestry agencies, and Farm Service Agency Board, will be necessary. It will be necessary to incorporate Best Management Practices and environmental awareness, particularly related to water quality and resources, in all programming efforts.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A baccalaureate degree forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or closely related areas is required. A Master’s degree in a field listed is desired. Must have an undergraduate degree with an overall grade-point average of at least 2.5 (all GPA requirements based on a 4.0 system) and a 3.0 for graduate work attempted, if any, or master’s degree with an overall grade-point average of at least 3.0 or a current grade-point average of at least 3.0 on at least 12 hours of graduate credit. The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and experience in teaching and applying principles of leadership development to both youth and adults is also desired. Knowledge of public relations and the ability to cope with change are highly desirable characteristics. Ability to work with and through others is essential as is the ability to function with minimum supervision.

The College of Agriculture (COA) at Auburn University (www.agriculture.auburn.edu/) and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) (www.aces.edu) are seeking applications for the position of Associate Dean for Extension and Assistant Director for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Extension Programs. This 12-month administrative position will be located within the COA at Auburn University and fits within the organizational structures of COA and ACES. The Associate Dean/Assistant Director position reports jointly to the COA Dean and the ACES Associate Director. The position is classified as a tenure-track Extension Specialist with a COA and ACES administrative appointment. This position is a five-year appointment, subject to review.  The Associate Dean/Assistant Director will be a member of the COA administrative team and a member of the ACES System Program Team to bring into alignment the programmatic visions and directions of the COA and ACES. 

 

Responsibilities:  The Associate Dean/Assistant Director provides vision and leadership in how Extension, research, academic programs, and other allied programs develop synergy to enhance collaborative research and evidence-based outcomes. The position provides coordination and leadership for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Extension Programs carried out by ACES in collaboration with the COA, the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences (SFWS), and Alabama A&M University. The position is responsible for the coordination and integration of Extension programs that address timely issues in areas such as improving the productivity, sustainability and profitability of the state’s diverse agriculture and horticulture industries, promoting a safe and secure food supply, increasing environmental stewardship, and developing informed consumers.. The Associate Dean/Assistant Director will:

 

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Department Heads in the College, the SFWS Dean, ACES program units, and County Extension Offices;

  • Serve as a liaison between COA and ACES;

  • Foster entrepreneurial approaches to engage faculty in the pursuit and procurement of revenue through grants, contracts, gifts and fees to expand programming;

  • Mentor new Extension Specialists in COA and SFWS for agriculture, forestry, and natural resource programming;

  • Provide input to Department Heads and SFWS Dean for the evaluation of Extension Specialists and professional staff with ACES appointments;

  • Recommend changes to ensure constant improvement of Extension programming.

  • Lead program needs assessment activities, priority program team plan-of�]work development, delivery of transformational Extension programs, outcome evaluation and Impact reporting;

  • Be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, mentoring and performance assessment of Regional Extension Agents;

  • Provide leadership to assure program alignment with the annual plan�]of�]work and direction set by ACES, COA, and SFWS;

  • Serve as the ACES representative to the Southern Region Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Program Leaders Network;

  • Provide leadership and guidance to priority program team coordinators and other team leaders;

  • Foster the use of emerging pedagogy and communication technologies, including the appropriate media and social media, to engage new and diverse constituent audiences;

  • Build teamwork through communication with ACES and departmental Extension Specialists, Regional Extension Agents, and others as appropriate.

POSITION SUMMARY

The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is seeking qualified candidates for a District Biologist or District Forester position overseeing NWTF conservation program delivery in the Pacific Northwest.  The exact area of responsibility is to be determined but potential states of responsibility could include Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.  The primary objective for this position is to help achieve the conservation mission, and goals and objectives of the NWTF’s Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. initiative.   This is accomplished through strategic alignment of State and District activities in partnership with other NWTF field staff, NWTF volunteers, state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), major gift contributors and corporate partners.  “The work of the District Biologist/District Forester should focus on both the maintenance and expansion of conservation delivery in the District resulting in the development of new partnerships, innovative matching fund sources and an efficient and effective investment of NWTF resources through the selection of quality projects”.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·      Represents the NWTF at state & district meetings

·      Assists with coordination of the Hunting Heritage Super Fund and serves on the Super Fund Committee for their respective state(s), assists regional directors with chapter development activities, and assists Directors of Development in prioritization of focal landscapes along with associated PR materials and marketing

·      Works closely with state and federal wildlife agencies: may include serving on the state’s wild turkey committee, attending agency and commission meetings, partnering on hunting heritage programs, and collaborating on large-scale habitat conservation projects on public and private lands

·      Works closely with US Forest Service, State Forestry agency and NRCS in the development and delivery of conservation strategies and projects through stewardship agreement, Good Neighbor Authority, Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) projects as well as other delivery tools. May also include participating in Forest Plan Revision review, serving on district-level forestry committees and in meetings with forestry partners.

·      Tracks important hunting and conservation related regulations and legislation, land use planning and policy within the district. Communicate regularly with State Chapter President and NWTF Volunteer Relations staff and may serve as the NWTF Policy lead for the district.

·      Identifies funding sources to support conservation delivery objectives.  These might include grants, contracts, donations, sponsorships and special game permit auction proceeds.

·      Provides relevant information to NWTF staff, volunteers and Communications Department for promotion, marketing and awareness of district STH2 priorities and activities.  Contributes to Turkey Country magazine / Turkey Call television, NWTF state newsletters, websites, blogs, etc. as requested.

·      Other Functions: Position will assist in development / review of research projects, administers projects, assists state agency with wild turkey trap and transfer activities, assists Regional Directors with chapter development and outreach activities, and works with Development staff on major gift fundraising opportunities

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This position reports to the Conservation Field Manager for the Northwest Area.  Position will serve as the work leader for contractors working on conservation projects within the district and will be responsible for contractor monitoring/oversight on specific project activities. 

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a natural resources related field and a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience, and/or a Master’s Degree or equivalent OR a Bachelors degree in forestry from a SAF-Accredited Program, and a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience, and/or a Master’s degree or equivalent.  

·         Employee must possess a solid working knowledge of game and non-game species habitat management in the ecosystems where they will be working and a solid working knowledge of ecosystems and forest management within district of work 

·      Ability to work independently without close supervision and ability to determine work priorities daily, weekly and monthly to maximize time efficiency is required  

·      Must have good public speaking and presentation skills for both technical and nontechnical audiences 

·      Basic computer skills such as e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft office

·      Strong knowledge of wildlife habitat management, population management, harvest management and research techniques AND/OR strong knowledge of forest management and associated research techniques

·      Knowledge of wildlife population dynamics,  knowledge of wildlife capture, monitoring and handling techniques in addition to accepted forestry practices

·      Ability to identify tree species, wildlife species, shrubs and invasive species within the district and to read, understand and keep abreast of wildlife research and management peer-reviewed journals

·      Ability to navigate in remote and rural areas, communicate with land managers and provide advice to agency workers in the field

·      Must be willing to incur moderate travel within respective state(s) and district including overnight stays of 3 to 5 nights or more

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·      Masters degree and three (3) or more years of professional experience

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Skills:

• Practical experience with ArcGIS or similar mapping and data management systems.

Position Summary:
Edko, LLC is seeking utility vegetation management professionals, and/or candidates with a 2 or 4 year degree in forestry or a related field. Personnel are expected to perform inspections, and evaluations of line clearance work and vegetation along utility lines. Utility Arborists will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of tree clearance crews, interface with and negotiate line-clearance crew access and practices with utility customers, as well as, conducting other various special projects.

Utility Arborist Requirements:

  • The ability to work independently with excellent communication skills.
  • An AA or BA Degree in forestry, arboriculture or a related field; or utility vegetation management experience. Utility Arborist certification or ability to become certified within 1-year is preferred.

ArborMetrics Solutions, Inc. (AMS) is seeking a motivated and highly skilled individual to provide planning, scheduling, reporting, and project management for utility right-of-way vegetation management programs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Inspect right-of-ways to assess vegetation conditions and determine required maintenance activities.
• Assist with develop bid package maps and work manifests.
• Research easement and land rights for widths, rights and restrictions.
• Meet with land owners to explain vegetation management work.
• Mark work in the field where required.
• Respond to public concerns and questions about the work.
• Assist in the development of public relations materials.
• Respond to contractor questions concerning work specification and requirements.
• Document work activity using GIS equipped computer & custom work planning software.
• Inspect work completed by contractors for compliance to utility specifications.
• Assist in the management of contractors during storm restoration operations.
• Provide support and assistance on special projects as assigned by the utility.

Required Education:

• 2-4 year degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Sciences/Management, Horticulture or related field

Required Experience:

• 2 years applicable work experience preferred but not required.

Skills:
