Why join the Student Subunit?

Benefits of subunit membership include access to one of the largest networking opportunities in the field today, the American Fisheries Society. Members receive exposure to educational activities such as GIS and GPS workshops, discussions of published material, and volunteer programs like the Mississippi 4H Youth Sportfishing Program. Subunit membership includes membership in the Mississippi Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. Subunit members receive the quarterly Mississippi Chapter newsletter as well as an opportunity for conference travel compensation. Also, student members may now participate in the decision making process of the Chapter executive committee through our their student representative.

Who can join the Student Subunit?

Subunit Members can be students who have an interest in fisheries and related issues of importance to Mississippi State University. Membership categories include active and inactive membership. Active members may include faculty, students, and staff of Mississippi State University while inactive membership** may be comprised of alumni and honorary members.

** Inactive members are ineligible to vote or hold office

What does the subunit do?

Subunit members participate in a wide range of activities in their efforts to encourage the exchange of regional fisheries and other technical information.

How do I become a member?

To become a subunit member, contact us. The membership fee is $10.00 ($5.00 for subunit dues and $5. 00 for Chapter dues) and can be payed with cash or check. Please make checks payable to MSU AFS. In our effort to better serve you as a member we request that you fill out a member registration sheet.
