MSU professor named fellow of international organization
Tor P. Schultz of Mississippi State is a new Fellow of the American Chemical Society's Cellulose and Renewable Materials Division.
A professor in the university's Forest and Wildlife Research Center, he is being honored by the professional organization for his dedication, leadership and longstanding service to the division.
ACS's cellulose division—also known as CELL—is recognized worldwide as a leader in the chemical science and technology of renewable materials and biopolymers.
"Dr. Schultz is considered an expert on wood chemistry and preservation and is very deserving of this award," said Keith Belli, interim head of MSU's forest products department.
A member of the Mississippi State faculty for more than 25 years, Schultz holds seven patents on wood preservative systems. He previously was named a Fellow of the International Academy of Science and selected for membership in Phi Beta Kappa international scholastic honor society.
A Miami, Fla., native, he is a University of Florida graduate who also holds master's and doctoral degrees from North Carolina State University.
Schultz also is a member of the American Chemical and Forest Products societies, Gamma Sigma Delta, International Research Group on Wood Preservation, Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, Society of Wood Science and Technology, and American Wood-Preservers' Association.
