CFR hurricane relief effort underway

Mississippi State's College of Forest Resources is beginning a relief effort at the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station in Poplarville. Crews left early this morning (Friday, Sept. 2) with equipment and relief supplies for the Pearl River county.

Charles Burkhardt, MSU school forest manager, has a crew of nine with chainsaws, bulldozers, generators, water, and food. Burkhardt and crew will set up a temporary relief area with air conditioning and necessities. Supplies were on hand from the recently postponed Mid-South Forestry Equipment Show.

"All the generators and air conditioning we had for the show are now on their way to the coast," Burkhardt said.

MAFES crews will be traveling to the area Monday to restore the experiment station.
