A Mississippi State University Extension forestry specialist is the Forest Landowners Association's Extension Forester of the Year.
The organization, which is comprised of forest landowners in 17 southern states, selected MSU Extension professor Timothy Traugott for the 2007 honor.
During 22 years as an MSU Extension forestry specialist, Traugott has conducted almost 300 workshops and short courses for more than 8,000 Mississippi landowners.
"Tim is extremely attentive to the needs of landowners throughout the state," said Andy Londo, associate professor and extension forestry coordinator in the Department of Forestry. "He has developed short courses, workshops, and publications that address managing pine plantations for multiple purposes, including increasing wildlife in the plantations.”
Traugott received his bachelor's degree in forestry and a master's in agriculture and extension education from MSU.
In 2004, he was named a fellow of the Society of American Foresters. Additional honors include a service award from the Mississippi Society of American Foresters, a career leadership award from the Association of Natural Resources Extension Professionals and a meritorious service to forestry award from the Mississippi Forestry Association.
