Mississippi State forestry students honored for leadership, academics

The Department of Forestry at Mississippi State, part of the College of Forest Resources (CFR), recently held its annual Student Awards Ceremony, recognizing exceptional undergraduate and graduate students for their academic excellence. The department is part of the only nationally accredited program in the state for educating future leaders in natural resources, a field providing nearly 70,000 jobs and contributing $13.12 billion to Mississippi's economy.

Awards were given to the following students:

• Molly Graham, a forestry undergraduate student from Pensacola, FL, received the George Switzer Outstanding Undergraduate Award.
• Macy Gosselaar, a forestry master's student from Olathe, KS, received the Moehring Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the Master's Level.
• Lucas Evanko, a forestry undergraduate student from Woodfin, NC, received the U.S. Forest Service Science Award and the Senior Academic Achievement Award.
• Casey Iwamoto, a forestry doctoral student from Starkville, Mississippi, received the Moehring Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the Ph.D. Level.
• John Christopher Jacobson, a forestry undergraduate student from Armuchee, GA, received the Sophomore Academic Achievement Award.
• MaKeriah Hampton, a natural resource and environmental conservation undergraduate student from Ruleville, MS, received the Senior Academic Achievement Award and the George Switzer Outstanding Undergraduate Award.
• Anna Sisson, a natural resource and environmental conservation undergraduate student from Collierville, TN, received the Sophomore Academic Achievement Award.

The department takes pride in its high rate of employment for CFR graduates across the U.S. and specifically in Mississippi, reflecting the quality of education and training provided by the institution.
